| Kyu-shirataki Train Station Hokkaidi Japan |
“If you
educate a girl, you educate a whole nation.” Said Dr. Helene Gayle. And here Japan realizes the
statement.
Kyu-shirataki
Train station, on the northern island of Hokkaido Japan.
Neither it’s
a movie nor a fairy tale…Strange to listen but it's true, on this station, a
train stops twice a day with a unique time table, just to pick and leave a single student,
depending upon the girl needs to go to school and back.
For the past three years, a train has stopped at the remote
Kami-Shirataki station in the far north of Japan just twice a day. At
7:04 am prompt, it takes on a single passenger - a student on her way to
school - and brings her home again at 5:08 pm.
Three years
ago, the Japanese Railway decided to close it down. However they changed their
minds after they discovered a young girl used the station to go to high school
every day. For years now train has stopped at the station just for her. Japan
Railway will keep the train station open until she leaves school i.e. till 26 March this year.
Trains stop
at the station based on the school girl's timetable and pass by when she is on
holiday on her classes are off.
“Why should
I not die for a country like this when the government is already to go an extra
mile just for me,” one commentator wrote on CCTV News’s post.”This is the
meaning of good governance penetrating right to the grassroots level. Every
citizen matters. No child left behind.”
People are
tipping their hats to Japanese government for making education a top priority.
Some made a comment, “Now the whole dictionary will be small to describe
Japanese people and their government in a world”
